One series keeps NetOne ahead of rivals

HARARE – NETONE, Zimbabwe’s second largest operator,  launched a value-added service to keep subscribers abreast with breaking news.

Called News on One, it is part of a series of services the operator has initiated in the midst of intense competition in the sector.

Acting Chief Executive Officer, Brian Mutandiro, said the innovation would allow NetOne subscribers to tune and listen to preferred radio stations on their mobile phone.

“We are excited to be launching this service, which we are sure provides convenience to our subscribers. Our subscribers have different professions, engagements and responsibilities to the extent that they might not be able to listen to the latest news from their favourite radio stations.”

NetOne has been on the forefront of technological innovation.

Its OneFusion, launched in July last year, combines voice, data and social media at affordable rates for the subscriber. The operator has also launched OneMusic with content ranging from gospel, zimdancehall, hip-hop and house .

These are seen as key in Netone increasing its subscriber base by 14 percent last year to 4,712 million while rivals registered a drop in numbers. Econet and Telecel are the other operators, the former having the biggest market share.
