CHIREDZI – A former intelligence operative, Amon Mutungwazi, counts himself lucky after a passerby interrupted thieves while carting away his farming inputs worth 20 000 Rtgs.

Information availed at the magistrates court showed that two daring thieves broke into his store shed and stole 84×50 kg Urea ferilizers, 3×20 litres herbicides, 2shovels, 2 plastic drums, 1 knapsack and an Applicator in broad daylight.

They were however spotted by one Ranganai Mapiye from a distance who got suspicious after seeing the door of Mutungwazi’s shed wide open.

Mapiye went on to investigate and found out that 19 bags of Urea fertilizers were hidden outside the storeroom.

He waited there until the culprits, Admire Chivingandimo and another man came back to pick the remaining bags.

Mapiye managed to apprehend Chivingandimo, but his partner-in-crime escaped.

He then took possession of Chivingandimo’s cellphone and discovered that he was communicating with one Jairos Musopero in connection with selling of the fertilizers, leading to his arrest.

Police managed to recover 19 bags of fertilisers, a knapsack and two plastic drums.

Chiredzi Magistrate Geraldine Mutsoto slapped Chivingandimo with 24 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
