HARARE – ZIMBABWE’S mobile operators have recorded an increase in revenue generated in the second quarter of the year in defiance of economic challenges.
According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ’s) abridged postal and telecommunications sector performance report, the three mobile network operators generated a total of $185,6 million during the period.
The three are leading network operator Econet Wireless, NetOne and Telecel Zimbabwe.
This represents a 3,2 percent increase from $179,8 million recorded in the previous quarter.
The aggregate average revenue per user per month remained at $3,98.
Investment by the mobile operators increased by 382,6 percent to record $50,489 million from $10,461 million in the previous quarter.
The bulk of the investment was in national transmission.
Nonetheless, total operating costs declined by 3,3 percent to $131,5 million from $135,8 million recorded in the previous quarter.
Econet, despite a slight drop in market share, maintains its position ahead of NetOne and Telecel.
It leads with 77,9 percent of the market share, followed by NetOne with 14 percent and Telecel at 8,1 percent.
